Salve Soirée Sets Fundraising Record

Senator Whitehouse with JJ and Jim Bennette Senator Whitehouse with JJ and Jim Bennette President Jane Gerety, RSM, presided over Salve Regina University’s 37th annual Governor’s Ball at Ochre Court last weekend, with hundreds of local business leaders, alumni, parents and friends coming out to support student scholarships.

The fundraising gala, chaired by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Gilbane Jr., raised a record $370,000, including a surprise gift of $25,000 donated by friends of the president to establish a scholarship in her honor. “The very moment Sister Jane’s friends in Atlanta got word that Salve was establishing a scholarship in her name the phones lit up,” said David Fitzgerald, a board member at St. Joseph’s Hospital whose relationship with Sister Jane has spanned 25 years, adding that the selfdubbed FOJs (Friends of Jane) raised over $25,000 in 24 hours. “Sister Jane has legions of friends in Atlanta who miss her presence, her wise counsel, her intellect, her friendship, her perspective, and her sense of humor,” Fitzgerald said.
