"Thirty Years of Great Taste" was the theme as members of the community came together to celebrate the culinary talents of local chefs while supporting the Child & Family programming that last year benefited 6,000 residents. Timed just after the chaos of the tourist season and before the onslaught of the holidays, the event is always a popular draw, enticing even those not typically prone to philanthropic soirées to step out for Newport's families.

Forty-six local businesses were cooking for the masses, with restaurants, caterers, bakeries, and confectioners all trying to outdo one another in what has become a bigger culinary treat for many than Thanksgiving. Once again, they did not disappoint, offering selections ranging from haute cuisine to old favorites with an innovative twist.

Catherine Gazder, Richard Carbotti, and Melanie Delman Catherine Gazder, Richard Carbotti, and Melanie Delman Landa Patterson, director of volunteers and interns, reported that the gala raised $127,000 for community programming, with silent and live auctions generating furious competition. ABC6 meterologist Steve Cascione led the spirited live auction, and vacation getaways, restaurant special events and innovative gift packages had people reaching for their wallets. The top moneymaker of the evening was a weeklong vacation for six at Casa Alina in Tuscany at $4,200, and the biggest local draw was a wine dinner for ten at 22 Bowen that went for $2,800.
