ALN to Host Commissions Forum

The Alliance for a Livable Newport (ALN) is holding the second meeting in its series of free public forums examining the role of the 33 commissions and boards that support the work of Newport’s City Council. The informational panel discussion will be held on Thursday, Nov. 14, from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at the Newport Public Library, 300 Spring St.

The meeting will highlight the work of Newport’s Historic District Commission and the Zoning Board of Review. Participating panelists are Rebecca McSweeney, Chair of the Zoning Board of Review; John Shehan, Chair of the Historic District Commission; and Mark Weintraub, Historic Planner for the City of Newport. Following its discussion, the panel will entertain questions and comments from the audience. Queries may be sent in advance to info@newportalliance.org.

ALN works to improve the quality of life in Newport by acting as an unbiased source of information in its five focus areas of education, the environment, infrastructure, government, and public health and safety. By offering special forums and through representation at City Council and other meetings, ALN strives to assist residents in making informed decisions in these areas of civic discourse. The first forum in the series on Oct. 2 featured reports from the Cliff Walk Commission, the Easton’s Beach Commission, and the Waterfront Commission.

For additional information on ALN or the upcoming forum, contact Isabel Griffith, President of the Board of Directors, at igriffith38@verizon.net or visit the organization’s website at newportalliance.org. More information on the Historic District Commission and the Zoning Board of Review may be found at the city’s website at cityofnewport.com.
