A Spooktacular Guide to Halloween

Spooky Tales

Family-friendly telling of spooky tales by Edgar Allan Poe, Newport Art Museum, 76 Bellevue Ave., Saturdays, Oct. 19 and 27, 2 p.m., newportartmuseum.org.

Fortress of Nightmares Begins

Halloween Carnival and Haunted House

Event will feature games, a haunted house, a bake sale and all your favorite things that go bump in the night. Cost is $3 per person and $10 for a family of four, Rogers High School auditorium, Oct. 19, 5 – 9:30 p.m.

Freak Show

Curl Up & Dye, Closet Revival, and Steven James have teamed up to present the fifth annual Freak Show at the Newport Blues Café on Sunday, Oct. 20. The costume fashion show benefits Jennifer King, a local woman battling brain cancer. Doors to the fashion show open at 3 p.m. Admission is a $15 donation.

Gothic Ghost Tales

Actress, singer, and playwright Rita Parisi will perform ghost stories at the Portsmouth Free Public Library on Tuesday, Oct. 22 at 6:30 p.m. The stories were written by authors such as Agatha Christie and Rose MacCauley. These scary stories are not suitable for children under 10. This program is free and open to the public, but seating is limited. Stop by or call the library at 683-9457 to sign up.

Halloween Organ Recital

Salve Regina University organist Matthew Kelly will perform works in the spirit of Halloween, concluding with Bach’s “Toccata and Fugue in D Minor,” a Halloween classic, Thursday, Oct. 24, Our Lady of Mercy Chapel, Ochre Point Ave., 7 p.m., 401- 341-2227.

Redwood Parade

All kids are invited to parade around the block in costume at the Redwood Library on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 1-2 p.m. Can’t make it for the parade? Stop by the Children’s Library that afternoon for Halloween crafts and treats!

‘Next of Kin’

Newport Children’s Theatre Teen Repertory Company will perform “Next of Kin”, a Murder Mystery Dinner at Fenner Hall, Friday, Oct. 25 and Saturday, Oct. 26, 7 p.m.$20 for adults, $15 for students. Haunted Graveyard Tour

Boo-ery Halloween Parade

The inaugural family-friendly Newport Storm Boo-ery Halloween Parade is planned for Saturday, Oct. 26, 4 - 5 p.m. Trick-ortreat opportunities will be along the route, from the post office on Broadway to Washington Square. For more information, contact information@newportstorm.com.

Howl-O-Ween Stroll

Dress up your dog in its best Halloween costume and stroll along Bellevue Avenue on Saturday, Oct. 26. Meet at Wag Nation at noon on William St., then visit participating Bellevue businesses for treats. The parade ends at Wag Nation with a costume contest.

Crafts & Costume Party

Dress up in your favorite Halloween costume and drop in for arts and crafts at the Middletown Public Library, 700 E. Main Rd. from 2-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26.

YMCA Costume Climb

The climbing tower and high ropes course will be open on Sunday, Oct. 27 from 1-4 p.m. at the Y for anyone ages 6+. Halloween costumes encouraged, 847.9200 ext. 113.

‘A Gorey Affair’
