Surprising Menu

To the Editor:

I've just returned from a visit to Newport and enjoyed reading Newport This Week. I'm writing regarding an advertisement placed in your paper on Sept. 12 by one of Newport's upscale restaurants. The ad described a special dinner hosted by the restaurant where two endangered pigs, fed on a diet of white oak acorns, would be served to guests.

Are the affluent in Newport so jaded that they stoop to eating endangered animals? I am appalled by this stunning lack of sensitivity. What's on the menu next? California Condor? Manatee?
