Blessing of the Animals

Blessing of the Beasts

Saint John the Evangelist, at the corner of Washington and Willow streets, will have a Blessing of the Beasts on Sunday, Oct. 6 following the 10 a.m. Sung Mass at approximately 11:15 a.m. on the lawn in front of the church. Animals on leashes or in carriers and their guardians are welcome at Mass, or may just come for the blessing. The service will be brief with refreshments following, and animals and companions will have their portraits taken. In case of rain, the service will be in the north vestibule of the church, inside under the bell tower. For more information, call the church office at 401-848-2561.

St. Mary’s to Bless Animals

St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, 324 East Main Rd. in Portsmouth will also bless animals during the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services on Sunday, Oct. 6.

Feast of St. Francis

Emmanuel Church will welcome all creatures great and small to the Feast of St. Francis at the start of the 10 a.m. service on Oct. 6. All are invited to bring one leashed or caged pet to church for a blessing. All animals will gather in the library at 9:50 a.m. to be a part of the procession into church.

Annual Pet Blessing

The annual pet blessing in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals, will be held on Oct. 6 at noon at the gazebo in King Park. Father Michael Malone will preside.
