Dr. John Clarke Tribute



In honor of the 350th anniversary of the Rhode Island Charter of 1663, two events honoring Dr. John Clarke, the author of the document that granted liberty of conscience to the colonists, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 6. The short documentary, “A Lively Experiment: Dr. John Clarke, Co-founder of Rhode Island,” will be shown at 2 p.m. at the Jane Pickens Theatre. The screening is free, courtesy of the United Baptist Church, the John Clarke Memorial and the John Clarke Trust. Following the film at 3 p.m., there will be a wreath laying at the gravesite of Dr. Clarke on Dr. Marcus Wheatland Jr. Boulevard. All are welcome. (Photo by Nila Asciolla.) (See story on page 9.)
