Extending the Growing Season

The Northeast Organic Farming Association of R.I. (NOFA/RI) will hold its next workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 17, at the Island Community Farms, Elizabeth Lane, Middletown at 5 p.m. You will learn how to start spring plantings earlier, extend harvests past early frosts and over winter, and tender plantings safely under low tunnels. Lightweight, rain-permeable low tunnels also offer pest protection. Low tunnels are a simple, cost-effective method for extending the growing season. A pipe bender demonstration will also be given. Everyone is welcome at this free event, co-hosted by Sustainable Aquidneck and Garman Organic Farm.

NOFA/RI workshops are open to beginning and advanced farmers, backyard gardeners, and eaters. The organization serves farmers, gardeners and consumers with education and outreach.
